Ghanaian actor George Appiah Kubi, also known as Paa George, has commended former President John Dramani Mahama for his support to him and other veteran colleagues.
The 85-year-old said former president John Mahama provides both food items and monetary support to veteran actors and families of deceased actors.
Speaking on Accra-based XYZ TV on Sunday, June 19, 2022 monitored by this portal he added that his intention of making this known is not politically motivated.
He believes it was proper to praise the former president in public for being the reason behind his strength and continuous existence.
Paa George further added that the support which comes every three months, he and his colleagues gather at a certain Mr. Mensah’s house to receive it through Mr. Beautiful, the Kumawood actor.
He again stated that the former President’s philanthropic gesture toward them started when he (President Mahama) met with the veteran actors at the late Super OD’s funeral in the Central Region.
“Mahama is a good man. The strength I have today, I owe to him and God. Since OD died and we went to the funeral with him he has been so good. He met with us and some other veteran actors and actresses at the funeral and since then, he takes good care of us. Every three months he provides us with food like rice and oil with sardines to go with. He adds money that can take care of us for the period.
“We meet at Mr Mensah’s house and he does not even come there, he does it through Mr. Beautiful. He takes care of us and even the wives of late actors. Even now that he is not the President he continues to take care of us. We should be grateful to such people. I’ve never gone to his house, I don’t even know his house,” he stated.
When asked whether he would respond to President Akufo-Addo’s call when he calls, he said; “I have not gone there yet but if I go he can’t say anything.”
