The Methodist Church seems to have endorsed Vice President Bawumia’s silence on issues of LGBTQ in Ghana.
In the last few weeks, arguments on issues of LGBTQ have heightened in Ghana with the visit of American Vice President Kamala Harris to Ghana.
President Akufo Addo in media engagement with the American veep suggested his Government is not enacting a law to criminalize Homosexuality but it’s a private bill being laid in parliament.
This remark from the President infuriated a large section of Ghana which seems to be against any attempt by any person to legalize Homosexuality in Ghana.
Interestingly, Vice President Bawumia who is known to be loud on all issues in Ghana seems to have gone mute.
As a Muslim as he is, there have been genuine calls directed at Dr. Bawumia to make his stance known on this issue of LGBTQ.
But he has refused to comment which has deepened suspicions about how several pro-LGBTQI are raising funds to support his campaign.
The Vice President was recently in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region as a Guest of Honour at the 25th Anniversary of the Methodist Church in Obuasi.
One would have thought as a Church that has all shown interest in this issue of LGBT the Methodist Church in Obuasi and thus Ghana would have asked the Vice President to clearly state his view on the issue.
The silence of the church on this issue by failing to ask Vice President Bawumia to make his stance known is something that suggests the Church is technically endorsing the silence of Dr. Bawumia on such a sensitive issue.
