Some angry New Patriotic Party residents of Juaben in the Ashanti Region, have threatened to attack some assembly members after they rejected the Metropolitan Chief Executive nominee for the area.
The residents massed up at the confirmation venue after the nominee, Alex Sarfo Kantanka, was voted against by 15 of the 26 assembly members.
The Ashanti Regional Minister and the nominee have been whisked away to the chief’s palace after the confirmation process.
Police have stepped in to calm tensions and protect the assembly members.
This confirmation has been plagued with controversy, with 20 assembly members boycotting the process the last time around over what they described as intimidation because of the heavy security presence.
