Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament Right Honorable Alban Kingsford Bagbin must be on high alert as he travels to Dubai because sources say some dangerous people in high authority want him dead.
Mr. Bagbin was elected as speaker of Parliament in a historic turn of event on the eve of 7th January 2021 after the highly contested 2020 General election which saw the NDC winning 137 seats in parliament with NPP winning 137 and the remaining seat being an independent candidate.
Hon. Bagbin’s election was historic because, for the first time in Ghana’s history a speaker nominated by the NDC (minority) in parliament in the Person of Alban Bagbin won against Mike Ocquaye who was nominated by the NPP and thus the new government.
Events leading to his election was dramatic with Carlos Ahenkorah from the NPP trying to snatch ballot papers to deny Bagbin victory of becoming the speaker.
It was one event which has put the government vis-a-vis the NPP is disarray since.
The NPP which is the Party in power has since not been comfortable with the speaker’s rulings and moderations in the house.
The master stroke which broke the camel’s back was the rejection of the 2022 budget by parliament moderated by Alban Bagbin.
Even though it is clear that Mr Bagbin did all in his powers by over delaying proceedings for members of the NPP who were outside Ghana to rapidly travel back into the country on the day of the final budget approval or rejection to be part of the proceedings, the leadership of the NPP in parliament and even government has accused the Speaker for being bias among others.
This action sources say has infuriated some persons deeply connected to the government in high authority who have vowed to eliminate Bagbin on his trip to Dubai to pave way for a new speaker which will come from the NPP.
Note that, Parliament was forced to make the purpose of the trip public because the confidential documents was leaked on social media by some persons in Government detailing Mr Bagbin was traveling to the Gulf State for medical review.
The source says the NPP believes once Speaker is kicked out by any means, they can have a free run of parliament to pass deals like Agyapa, E-levy and even draft malicious bills to rig the 2024 elections.
The rejection of the 2022 budget has pained the NPP and its government and they are stopping at nothing to make sure Speaker Alban Bagbin is eliminated.
Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, John Boadu among other top party officials even before the historic event of the budget rejection has made derogatory remarks about the Speaker by trying to undermine his authority with the infamous one coming from John Boadu who said Speaker Bagbin is suffering from inferiority complex.
Our Portal is forced to put out this sensitive and dangerous revelation from our source because the speaker of parliament plays an important role in Ghana’s democracy especially with the sort of parliament the country has now with no clear cut majority since both sides have 137 seats each with the other one seat occupied by an independent candidate.
