The Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru in the Eastern Region Kennedy Osei Nyarko has said if he was to advise the government on steps to take to avert the hardship of the people of Ghana, he will advise that some social intervention programmes be suspended.
According to him, paramount of which will be the Free SHS, NABCO, Teachers and Nurses Trainee Allowances, school feeding programme among others.
He argues that from all indications, the people of Ghana do not appreciate the government’s social interventions and therefore it will be prudent that the monies spent on these interventions can be invested in other sectors of the economy.
“We can save about 5 – 6 billion if we decide to take the above actions and channel all these monies into other sectors of the economy,” he said in a post shared on his Facebook page.
Adding that “Government can decide use half this amount to support the youth and the other half to support existing agro-processing and domestic products manufacturing industries for the next 3 years and let’s see the results”.
The people of Ghana are complaining bitterly about the rise in the cost of living as the country’s economy continues to sink.
Ghana’s cedis is suffering among other currencies and the price of fuel keeps skyrocketing each passing day having a rippling effect on the prices of goods and services in the country.

If I was to advise the government in taking some drastic measures like I will recommend for the following social intervention programs to be suspended immediately and all monies pumped in other productive sectors of the economy let’s see what the impact will be.
- suspend the FSHS
- suspend the School feeding program
- Suspend the teacher and nursing trainees allowances
- suspend the PFJ
- suspend NABCO
Since most Ghanaians are not appreciating the above interventions and are complaining about hardships, it will be very prudent for the government to put those monies into other productive areas of the economy.
