When Former Chief Justice Anin Yeboah retired and Gertrude Torkonoo was nominated and eventually approved as the new Chief Justice, many assumed even though Anin Yeboah’s era sunk the judiciary to its lowest point, at least Torkonoo as the new CJ will bring back the trust Ghanaians have lost in the judiciary.
However, the new CJ is starting on the wrong foot with her thirst to victimize Justice Daniel Mensah who is a judge and also the chief of Dormaa.
The Dormaa Chief after the Assin North by-election had said that in his capacity as a chief, he will appeal to the Attorney General and all relevant stakeholders to discontinue the criminal case against James Gyakye Quayson who once again was overwhelmingly elected by his point.
Yesterday, Justice Daniel Mensah( Dormahene) appeared before a Committee chaired by Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Sackey Torkonoo.
The committee was set up by Judicial Council to investigate the comments made by Justice Daniel Mensah after the Assin North by-election.
Counts:
1. Condemning a judgment of the Supreme Court contrary to the Code of Conduct of Judges and Magistrates.
2. Making pronouncements on a pending case as a judge, knowing that the case was before another judge contrary to the expressed provisions of the Code of Conduct of Judges and Magistrates.
After the deliberations, it was urged him to apologize to the General Public.
He has refused to apologize, hence they have decided to refer him to the entire Council.
