The Executive Director of Africa Centre for Peace Building, Korsi Senyo is apealing to the citizens of Ghana and Africa at large to come together to fight hunger in the wake of this COVID-19 outbreak.
Korsi Senyo who is also the Project Coordinator of Ghana Covid-19 Relief Support in a Facebook post sighted by Loud Silence Radio has warned if steps are not taken to fight hunger, it could be the next pandemic in Africa.
“We must unite to fight hunger during this covid-19 crises, else hunger could be the next pandemic in Africa after COVID-19.”
Mr. Senyo made the observation when he was appealing to his friends and business associate for support towards the Africa Centre for Peace Building’s initiative (Ghana Covid-19 Relief Support Project) to compliment efforts of government in the COVID-19 fight.
According to him, “The situation [COVID-19], which has brought about the lockdown and social distancing directives in bid of helping stop the spread of the virus has had a devastating effects on households, especially those whose daily bread depends largely on their daily movement.”
“This has inspired my decision to lead a team of volunteers to launch the Ghana Covid-19 Relief Support project (GhanaCovid19.org) which is purely a nonprofit private sector initiative led by the Africa Centre for Peace Building (afcopb.org) – a peace & security focused NGO which I have been operating for the past 10years.” – He said
He has revealed that “Since the launch of the project, we have received some donations which helped us to donate some food items to over 100 residents of Kasoa in the Central Region ( https://wp.me/p3xrL5-7QD ). As of today, we have over 1,000 people who have placed distressed calls for support. We also have some health centres in some villages in the Covid-19 positive regions who also called for support in the areas of PPEs.”
Ghana, since March 12, 2020 has rerecorded 641 positive cases of the deadly corona virus with four cities namely Kumasi, Accra, Tame and Kasoa currently under 21days lockdown.
