Zambian medical officer Joseph Kabungo, who was working as CAF/FIFA Medical Officer for the Ghana-Nigeria World Cup qualifier, has died.
Dr Kabungo died at the hospital, where he was rushed to after collapsing during a stampede that followed the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw with the Black Stars.
Home fans expressed their outrage by invading the Moshood Abiola National Stadium pitch a few minutes after the game to attack their players.
The draw meant Nigeria would not be at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as the first leg ended in a goalless draw in Kumasi last Friday.
The Ghanaians, as a result, qualified on the away goals rule.
Not happy with the outcome, the fans ran over facilities and allegedly the Zambian official.
His family has since been informed about the unfortunate incident.
