Our source close to Andy Appiah Kubi, the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North has intercepted revealing information about why the Finance minister is still in post.
Andy Appiah Kubi who was an integral member of the Ashanti Regional MPs who called for the removal of Ken Ofori Atta as Finance minister has said they backed down on their request for Ofori Atta to be removed because Otumfuo Osei Tutu II overlord of the Asantes personally rebuked the Ashanti region MPs who called for the removal of Ken Ofori Atta as finance minister.
According to Andy Appiah Kubi, it would be disrespectful to still push for the removal of Ken Ofori Atta as Finance minister when the Asante King has asked them to abandon such a call and allow Ofori Atta to further destroy Ghana’s Economy.
You will recall that in October 2022, some 80 Members of Parliament from the side of the NPP in parliament joined forces to call for the removal of Ken Ofori Atta as Finance minister.
This came up at a time these same MPs from the majority side declined to be part of the minority’s censure motion to have Ken Ofori Atta removed as MP.
According to Kyei Mensah Bonsu who is the majority leader, President Akufo Addo met with the said MPs and agreed that they should give Ofori Atta to wrap up the IMF negotiations, and thus when he is done, he will be taken off as a finance minister.
It has been months since the IMF board approved a program for Ghana but contrary to what Akufo Addo told the majority group in parliament, Ken Ofori Atta who is Akufo Addo’s cousin is still at the post as Finance minister.
However, Andy Appiah Kubi, MP for Asante Akim North has said in a private conversation that, the silence of the 80 MPs who called for the removal of Ofori Atta has been because Asantehene Otumfuo personally held a meeting with the MPs and directed them to stop such calls for Ken Ofori Atta’s removal.
He said, going against the orders of the Asantehene could spell doom for his colleague MPs who specifically hail from the Ashanti region.
