An Accra High court on Tuesday 27 October awarded a fine of GHC 1 million as damages to President Nana Akuffo Addo’s cousin, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.
On how an international courier company DHL became a court registry or a bailiff leaves Gabby a wonderful man in the portrait of a defamation suit presided over by the High Court. After paying legal fees of the lawyer who represented him and won him an award of GHC 1 million, he still does not know how to get the money.
Mr. Kevin Taylor, who Gabby sued reacted and said: “Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, I never knew DHL is a bailiff department of Ghana courts. The lawyer chop your money kwa…”.
Mr Taylor who revealed that since he was served through DHL, which is not a court bailiff never warrants appearance in court in another jurisdiction. The fine that the High Court gave was made known to the accuse through local News in Ghana. A mirage Gabby keeps chasing that leaves no one at a destination.
Mr. Taylor narrated Mr. Asare Otchere-Darko’s involvement in the Power Distribution Service (PDS) acting as legal counsel or providing legal services for Ghana and PDS has benefited him a lot from the botched deal and he had used proceeds from his services to acquire a property in the UK.
Mr Otchere-Darko, who refuted the claims, sued Mr Taylor for defaming him.
The Court on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 ruled that Mr Taylor’s comments were defamatory and he is to pay GHC 1 million to the aggrieved plaintiff, Mr Otchere-Darko.
