The pressure group Respect My Vote Movement has called on the National Democratic Congress(NDC) to ignore demands by the National Peace Council to restrict it members from exercising their constitutional treaties of sovereignty and expression through demonstrations.
According to them, the National Peace Council was aware when the Electoral Commission was cautioned by various stakeholder against the hasty declaration of results but they sat without any intervention.
A statement issued on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 by the Respect my Vote movement, said,
“If the Peace Council was interested in peace, they would have called the EC to order”
This emerges after the Council in a statement advised the party to refrain from protesting, as it has the potential to spark post-election violence and mar the entire peaceful election process.
“The greatest threat to Ghana’s democracy is the conduct of the Electoral Commission that hastily declared wrong results and subverted the sovereign will of Ghanaians and has since changed the results many times without any explanation to Ghanaians. This singular conduct of the Electoral Commission had the potential of throwing the entire country into chaos”, they said.
Aside from grievances at the constituency level, the NDC has also rejected the outcome of the presidential election which saw Nana Akufo-Addo declared President.
“Protests by innocent citizens who feel aggrieved that the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections have been stolen for Nana Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party by the Electoral Commission do not constitute any threat to our democracy. These patriotic citizens must rather be commended for rising up to defend our constitution and help restore the sovereignty of the people, the group cited.
Meanwhile, the movement “wishes to commend all Ghanaians who have taken to the streets to protest against the day light subversion of the will of the people. We commend these compatriots who are sacrificing their time and energy in defence of the constitution”, they added.

DISREGARD ADVICE FROM HYPOCRITICAL NATIONAL PEACE COUNCIL – RMV TO NDC
Accra, 22nd December, 2020 -Respect My Vote Movement is calling on the National Democratic Congress to disregard calls by the National Peace Council to restrain its members from exercising their constitutional rights of freedom of assembly and expression through demonstrations.
The greatest threat to Ghana’s democracy is the conduct of the Electoral Commission that hastily declared wrong results and subverted the sovereign will of Ghanaians and has since changed the results many times without any explanation to Ghanaians. This singular conduct of the Electoral Commission had the potential of throwing the entire country into chaos.
The National Peace Council was in this country when the Electoral Commission was cautioned by various stakeholder against the hasty declaration of results but they sat without any intervention. If the Peace Council was interested in peace, they would have called the EC to order. If the National Peace Council has any advice, they should go and give same to Jean Mensa and Nana Akufo Addo who have both conspired to subvert the will of Ghanaians.
Protests by innocent citizens who feel aggrieved that the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections have been stolen for Nana Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party by the Electoral Commission do not constitute any threat to our democracy. These patriotic citizens must rather be commended for rising up to defend our constitution and help restore the sovereignty of the people.
Respect My Vote wishes to commend all Ghanaians who have taken to the streets to protest against the day light subversion of the will of the people. We commend these compatriots who are sacrificing their time and energy in defence of the constitution.
Signed
